Seat Storage & Delivery Conveyor System

FATA Automation Limited was contracted to design, manufacture, and install the complete Storage & Delivery Conveyor System for front and rear seats on a major automotive production line. This end-to-end solution demonstrates FATA’s capability to deliver complex, high-reliability systems that integrate seamlessly into fast-paced, just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing environments.
Seats arrive preloaded on specialized trailers equipped with conveyor sections. Once docked, the trailer connects directly to the plant’s conveyor network, enabling rapid, synchronized unloading of up to 27 full seat sets via a buffer system known as the “false trailer.” As the loaded pallets move into the plant, the system simultaneously begins reloading the trailer with empty pallets—ensuring continuous material flow.
FATA’s solution includes:
- False trailer buffer system for load balancing
- High-level roller conveyors for efficient routing to the line
- Automated drop lifters for ergonomic line-side presentation
- Pallet identification and sorting controls
- Automated pallet stacking (3-high rear, 4-high front)
- Return conveyors and accumulation systems for reloading
Approaching the line, seat pallets are automatically routed, lowered, and presented for manual fitting using manipulators. Empty pallets are stacked and returned through a fully automated handling loop, ready for the next trailer load.
This project showcases FATA Automation Limited’s strength in delivering turnkey, high-throughput conveyor systems tailored to the needs of global OEMs.
Approaching the vehicle assembly area, left hand, right hand and rear seat pallets are detected and are routed to one of three drop lifters. Pallets are lowered by the drop lifter and are transferred to a line-side conveyor ready for presentation to the vehicle by manipulator.
Empty pallets are returned to the drop lifters and are raised to the high level return conveyors to the pallet delivery area.
En route two empty pallet stacking units are installed, the rear seat pallets are stacked three high and the front seat pallets are stacked four high. The stacked pallets proceed along to two further drop lifters where they accumulate to await loading into an empty trailer.
