Company History
FATA was founded in Turin in 1936 as a manufacturing concern. Over the years FATA developed varied materials handling systems and became a major supplier to Fiat, which enabled FATA to grow in strength throughout Italy, Great Britain, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, USA and Russia.
MHS (Mechanical Handling Systems) based in Watford, part of the American Chain & Cable Company (ACCO). In 1974 ACCO acquired FATA and consolidated its’ European business as the FATA European Group.
In 1975 MHS moved from Watford to a purpose built facility in Milton Keynes and was renamed FATA Limited.
Today FATA Automation Ltd is part of the CiemMADA group, a major European supplier of automated materials handling and storage systems.
1975 – FATA Ltd established at Milton Keynes
1984 – FATA Ltd becomes part of the Babcock Group, trading as Babcock FATA Ltd
1986 – Relocation of offices and manufacturing to Worcester
1992 – FATA acquires Excel Automation Ltd
1995 – An MBO separates Excel Automation from FATA
2004 – FATA Group worldwide materials handling activities are divested
2006 – FATA Automation Ltd continue to operate independently in the UK
2009 – FATA joins the CiemMADA materials handling group
